With all this Parvo moving around Puerto Rico, we are in more need than ever to raise funds to help these little guys. We had eight puppies at the house and all have been infected with the deadly puppy disease Parvo.
Parvo is caused by the canine parvovirus.Yes, that’s right, it’s a virus which means there is nothing we can do besides let it run its course. It is highly contagious and spreads through direct contact with an infected dog or by indirect contact with a contaminated object. And yes, humans can be that contaminated object. Indirect transmission occurs when a person who has recently been exposed to an infected dog touches your puppy, or when a puppy encounters a contaminated object, like a food or water bowl, collars and leashes, and the hands and clothing of people who handle infected dogs.
Of the 7 little guys that had Parvo, 2 of them have died and the other 5 had to go to emergency vets (where they had space) around the island. We drove from Aguadilla to Ponce to get these little guys on an IV so that they could wait out the virus moving through their system.
Luckily, we had a GREAT day of fundraising over at The Mango Beach Shop in Rincon this weekend. We sold dozens of The Puerto Rico Dog Fun face masks, t-shirts and received quite a few direct donations.
